Key facts about this temporary route
- Duration: this is the 1–28-day route; the quote shows the exact minimum and available period for the selected vehicle.
- UK connection: GoShorty’s published eligibility information says the applicant needs a permanent UK address and the insured journey must start and end in the UK.
- Use: paid parcel, food or grocery delivery needs carriage-of-goods-for-hire-and-reward cover.
- Goods carried: the motor policy does not insure the value of food, parcels or other goods in the vehicle.
- Eligibility: driver, vehicle, work and underwriting rules apply; a quote is not a guarantee of acceptance.
Hire-and-reward cover for a delivery van
A van used to carry other people’s goods for payment needs carriage-of-goods-for-hire-and-reward cover. Standard van insurance, ordinary business use or carriage of own goods does not normally permit courier deliveries. The certificate and schedule provide the final description of permitted use.
Published van criteria
The currently described product is intended for eligible commercial vans weighing up to 3.5 tonnes. The quote also checks matters such as vehicle value and condition, MOT and roadworthy status, SORN status, seating, modifications, ownership, whether the van is rented or hired, hazardous goods and whether it has been impounded.
The quote and policy documents provide the definitive criteria. Do not assume a van qualifies solely because it is below the weight limit.
Paid delivery work that may be considered
Subject to eligibility, temporary van hire-and-reward cover may suit parcel and multi-drop delivery, food and grocery delivery, and eligible work involving services such as Amazon Flex, Evri, Yodel, DPD, Deliveroo, Just Eat or Uber Eats. A platform may impose additional insurance, cargo, vehicle or documentation requirements.
Borrowed vans and hired vans are different
An eligible van used with the owner’s permission may be considered. A rental or hire vehicle is not treated the same way and is excluded under GoShorty’s published temporary-van criteria. Enter the true owner and vehicle details during the quote.
Goods in the van are not insured
Hire-and-reward motor cover concerns the van, permitted driver and road liability. It does not cover the value of parcels, food, tools or other items in the vehicle. Goods in Transit insurance is separate and may be required under the courier contract.
UK journey and address rules
GoShorty’s published temporary-van criteria say the applicant needs a permanent UK address and the insured journey must start and end in the UK. Further driver, licence, history and underwriting requirements apply without a universal guarantee of acceptance.
Need more than temporary van cover?
This branch is for cover lasting no more than 28 days. If you need van courier insurance for 29 days or more, return to the courier insurance options and choose the ongoing-cover route.
