Need insurance for a short period of courier or delivery work? Temporary courier cover may be available for eligible car or van drivers for 1–28 days, without committing to a longer-term courier policy.
Key facts about this temporary route
- Duration: this is the 1–28-day route; the quote shows the exact minimum and available period for the selected vehicle.
- UK connection: GoShorty’s published eligibility information says the applicant needs a permanent UK address and the insured journey must start and end in the UK.
- Use: paid parcel, food or grocery delivery needs carriage-of-goods-for-hire-and-reward cover.
- Goods carried: the motor policy does not insure the value of food, parcels or other goods in the vehicle.
- Eligibility: driver, vehicle, work and underwriting rules apply; a quote is not a guarantee of acceptance.
Cover built around short delivery periods
Temporary courier insurance is intended for a defined period of paid delivery work, such as an individual shift, a busy weekend, seasonal work or a short contract. Choose a start time and duration that covers the whole period in which the vehicle will be used for deliveries.
The certificate and schedule show the exact start and finish. Do not continue delivery work after cover expires, and do not assume the temporary policy replaces any insurance needed outside that period. Any underlying-insurance requirement depends on the quote and policy documents.

Understanding hire and reward
Our temporary hire-and-reward guide explains the class of vehicle use required when you are paid to carry somebody else’s goods.
Why ordinary vehicle insurance is not enough
Social, domestic and pleasure cover, commuting cover and ordinary business use do not normally permit paid parcel or food deliveries. The policy must explicitly allow carriage of goods for hire and reward. Describe the vehicle and intended work accurately during the quote.
Vehicle insurance and cargo insurance are different
Temporary courier motor insurance is intended to cover the insured vehicle, the permitted driver and road liabilities in accordance with the policy terms. It does not insure the value of food, parcels or other goods in the vehicle. A courier or platform may require separate Goods in Transit insurance, so check the terms of the work before accepting deliveries.
Basic eligibility considerations
GoShorty’s published eligibility information says the applicant needs a permanent UK address and the insured journey must start and end in the UK. Eligibility also depends on the vehicle, licence, driving history, intended work and the insurer’s current underwriting rules. Read the eligibility declarations, certificate, schedule and policy wording before buying.
Need cover for 29 days or longer?
This branch is for cover lasting no more than 28 days. If you need courier insurance for 29 days or more, return to the courier insurance options and choose the ongoing-cover route.
Temporary courier insurance FAQs
How long can temporary courier insurance last?
This is the 1–28-day route. The exact minimum, duration options and terms depend on the vehicle and quote.
Can temporary courier insurance cover both cars and vans?
There are routes for eligible cars and eligible commercial vans. The criteria differ, so choose the page matching the vehicle you will actually use: car or van.
Can I make deliveries using ordinary business-use insurance?
Ordinary business use does not normally include paid parcel, food or grocery deliveries. You need cover that specifically permits carriage of goods for hire and reward.
Are the parcels or food I carry insured?
No. The temporary motor policy does not insure the value of goods being carried. Separate Goods in Transit insurance may be needed.
Is everybody guaranteed a quote?
No. Driver, vehicle, location, driving history, intended use and other underwriting rules apply. The quote journey determines whether cover can be offered.
What if I need courier insurance for more than 28 days?
Use the courier insurance options and select 29 days or more.
